The bedroom is our refuge and the room where, at the end of the day, we undress formality and surrender to a soft, rejuvenating embrace. However, often when it comes to furniture, we focus on more “showy” rooms such as the kitchen or living room, forgetting that the bedroom is the heart of our well-being. If you think it doesn't deserve much attention, think again. The bedroom is a private and intimate space that meets all your needs for rest and relaxation, so it is essential to design this room with the care it deserves.

From my experience, and more specifically from numerous requests for advice with accompanying photographs, I have realized that although the bedroom is the room in which you spend the most hours, it often does not resemble you. It is a room that, being less exposed to guests, is often neglected in terms of design and decor.

But this is an opportunity to turn it into your personal sanctuary, a place to retreat to at the end of the day and rejuvenate.

Making your bedroom your second skin is a breeze: all it takes is a simple makeover, following a few targeted tips, to know how to furnish a bedroom that reflects who you really are.

We choose the style of the bedroom

The first thing to evaluate is the size of the room. In fact, having an average sized room or owning a very large room could ultimately make a difference.

On average, the size of a bedroom is about 12 to 15 square meters. This means that, apart from a congruent-sized double bed, there is certainly not much space left for other furnishings. Don't let this discourage you: in fact, there are many elements that can still make your room as valuable and cozy as an alcove.

Let's start by defining what kind of style you want to give your room. The bedroom is the ideal place to dream and gamble a little, since it is your exclusive and private space. You can decide whether to go for a bright and sophisticated style, a room full of details, or evoke distant atmospheres such as those of the South Seas, or even recreate the fairy-tale ambiance of a castle tower.

We color our environment with the right palette

Once you have established the style, I would start by choosing the color palette that conveys tranquility and makes you feel good. Color plays an essential role in setting the mood of a bedroom, promoting relaxation and well-being. Earth tones such as brown, rust and forest green are particularly in vogue this fall and can transform your room into an oasis of warmth and comfort. If you love brighter hues, you can opt for neutral shades such as beige, ivory or sand, which always give an idea of freshness and elegance.

Prepare a large sheet or wooden board where you can collect fabric swatches, wallpapers and photos of objects that inspire you. This palette will help you visualize the entire project before bringing it to life. It is important that the colors blend and dialogue with each other before moving on to practical implementation.

The magic of fabrics: quality and comfort

One of the most overlooked aspects when it comes to bedroom furniture is the importance of fabrics. Nothing makes a room more luxurious than high-quality bedding. Opting for high-quality linen or cotton sheets, such as those offered by Borgo delle Tovaglie, not only visually enriches the room, but also provides unparalleled comfort. Linen, in particular, is perfect for any season, offering coolness in summer and warmth in winter.

Don't forget to choose soft, well-padded pillows. The secret to a luxurious bed? At least two soft pillows on each side, and for a truly stunning effect, add European-sized pillows. If you're afraid you don't know where to store them at night, just have a basket or trunk at the foot of the bed-a simple gesture that makes everything neater

 Symmetry: harmony and well-being

A crucial aspect to consider when decorating the bedroom is symmetry, both in furniture and in the arrangement of accessories. According to Feng Shui principles, arranging two bedside tables with two lamps and two sets of pillows helps create a harmonious energy flow, promoting a serene and balanced environment.

Bed placement is also essential to achieve a balanced visual effect.

Most beds, especially designer or canopy beds, perform best when placed in the center of the room, with furniture arranged symmetrically around it. This is especially important if you own a significant piece of furniture, such as a four-poster bed or an imposing bed design.

 Bed: height, frame and headboard

Once you have thus furnished the walls, all you need to do is focus on the bed and the room will be more than complete and cozy. The bed is not only a functional element, but the real star of the room. If you want to recreate the atmosphere of a luxury hotel, opt for high beds and thick mattresses, which give an imposing appearance and offer superior comfort.

As for the bed structure, I prefer storage beds because they offer the great advantage of hiding a capacious closet in an otherwise unused space. And, for an extra touch of elegance, pay attention to the headboard of the bed: whether it is made of fabric, wood or other material, it gives character and personality not only to the bed, but to the whole room.

The importance of details: curtains, carpets and wall decorations

Details make all the difference when you want to transform a bedroom. Curtains not only filter natural light but also help create a cozy atmosphere. Soft rugs underfoot and wall decorations that reflect your personal style are accents that add character and warmth to the room.

Lighting also plays a crucial role in creating the right atmosphere: opt for lamps that cast a warm and pleasant light, whether abat-jours, floor lamps or hanging solutions.

What furnishing fabrics to choose for the bedroom

The choice of fabrics is the final touch that gives personality to your bedroom. In addition to sheets and blankets, remember to play with decorative fabrics such as plaids, quilts and pillows in velvet or linen. Layering fabrics is essential to creating a cozy and luxurious environment.
